About Me:
My name is Debbie and I have been a licensed child care provider in Maryland. I have been working with families for over 20 years. Prior to this I was in retail management. I'm a mother of two fabulous young adults, one finishing college the other a registered nurse at a major medical hospital. To say the least I am very proud of my kids and all their accomplishments. Yes, they will always be my children.
I am registered with Maryland Department of Education. I am currently a member of Maryland State Family Child Care Association and the Howard County Family Child Care Association where I have served as a board member in the capacity of Treasurer. Currently I am serving as a consultant and mentor for newly licensed providers to which I provide assistance and guidance to providers going into or currently in the child care business. I am a graduate from the University of Maryland and in addition have completed 90 hours Child Development Associate. I maintain continuing educational training each year focusing on curriculum, child development, health, safety, and nutrition, etc.
I have the following degree/certifications/training:
B.S. University of Maryland CPR/First Aid
Child Development Associate SIDS Certified
Early Childhood Education Classes CEU'S Emergency Preparedness
Infant toddler development 45 hours Medication Administration
I am involved in the following organizations/associations:
National Association for Family Child Care Zero to Three
National Association of the Education of Young Children Ready by Five
Maryland State Family Child Care Association National Child Care Association
Howard County Family Child Care Association National Association of Child Care Professionals
The first five years of a child's life are the most important and children need to be nurtured and cared for in order to create a special bond. This is an important component of family childcare that differs very much from a center. In family childcare there is continuity of care with one provider over several years, smaller number of children, children of mixed ages learning from one another, more one on one time with each child and a true sense of family.
